If the hive is healthy, the population of bees will be onthe increase. When the queen senses that it’s time for the hive to split, shewill lose weight so she can fly, and then leave the hive with a large part ofthe bees. The bees left behind will hurry to hatch another queen and rebuild.
If some day you come across a swarm of bees in yourbackyard, call in a local beekeeper. Then sit back and enjoy the show. Get yourcamera, because you’ll want to share this amazing phenomenon with everyone youknow, especially children. And if you’ve gone this far, you might as well buy ahive of your own. We did.

Running out of cookingoil or need some dressing for your salad? The solution may be bugs from yourbackyard! Scientists are turning insects into a source of eatable and healthyoil. Even though serving insects as dishes is common in some parts of theworld, to many people, the thought of eating them is rather disgusting.
“In the Westerncountries, there is no culture of eating entire insects. So when the idea is touse the protein in powder as an ingredient(配料),people might tend to receive this protein better, on condition that they cannotsee it.” said researcher Daylan Tzompas-Sosa, Wageningen University, Netherlands.“There are many uses for the oil in general, but we are investigating the useof these oils for a food, as a food ingredient.”
The Mexicanresearcher, working in the Netherlands, said insects are a great source ofheart healthy omega-3 fatty acids, which can help treat anxiety disordersymptoms. Backing up the increased reliance on insects is the UnitedNations Food and Agriculture Organization. In a 2015 report, the UN agencyapproved the cultivation of bugs as a food source, saying it’senvironmentally-friendly and could increase the world’s food production.
There are clearreasons that experts advise people to eat the insects. Experts say insectsrequire little food to grow and that the backyard can be a good place to raisethem. And there’s no shortage of protein-rich insects, which also contain fat,vitamins, fiber and minerals.
Researchers saydifferent bugs provide unique tastes and textures. “This is very liquid and ithas a different color, so this can be used as a dressing for example and it’seasy to use and this can be used for example for pastry(油酥面团),because for pastry you need hard fats,” stated Tzompas-Sosa.
But not all insectsproduce good oil. Cockroaches (蟑螂) don’t. The bug oilsmust be tested to make sure they are safe to consume. But getting over the“disgusting feeling” may be a bigger challenge.

Humans and many othermammals have unusually efficient internal temperature regulating systems thatautomatically maintain stable core（核心）body temperatures incold winters and warm summers. In addition, people have developed culturalpatterns and technologies that help them adjust to extremes of temperature andhumidity（湿度）.
In very cold climates, there is a constant danger ofdeveloping hypothermia（低体温）, which is a lifethreatening drop in core body temperature to below normal levels. The normaltemperature for humans is about 37.0°C. However, differences in persons andeven the time of day can cause it to be as much as 6°C higher or lower inhealthy individuals. It is also normal for core body temperature to be lower inelderly people. Hypothermia begins to occur when the core body temperaturedrops to 34.4°C. Below 29.4°C, the body cools more rapidly because its naturaltemperature regulating system usually fails. The rapid decline in core bodytemperature is likely to result in death. However, there have been rare casesin which people have been saved after their temperatures had dropped to13.9-15.6°C. This happened in 1999 to a Swedish woman who was trapped under anice sheet in freezing water for 80 minutes. She was found unconscious, notbreathing, and her heart had stopped beating, yet she was eventually saveddespite the fact that her temperature had dropped to 13.7°C.
In extremely hot climates or as a result of uncontrollableinfections, core body temperatures can rise to equally dangerous levels. Thisis hyperthermia. Life threatening hyperthermia typically starts in humans whentheir temperatures rise to 40.6-41.7°C. Only a few days at this extraordinarilyhigh temperature level is likely to result in the worsening of internal organsand death.
